April Showers In Denver

The last week of April in Denver has arrived cool and rainy. While it may not be ideal for outdoor plans, this kind of weather creates a different kind of opportunity - one that calls for a bit of self care to start the day.

Rainy days tend to highlight tension and cause muscles to tighten, joints to feel stiff, and energy levels to drop. It becomes easier to notice the effects of stress. Instead of pushing through it, this is an ideal time to address it directly.

Starting the day with a massage shifts that entire dynamic. Rather than reacting to discomfort later, you begin the morning by setting a more relaxed tone for the rest of the day. The contrast between the cool, damp weather outside and a warm, focused treatment inside is immediate and noticeable.

There is also a mental component. Rain naturally slows the pace of the day. Scheduling a morning massage aligns with that slower rhythm instead of working against it. It creates a structured pause, specifically to reset before the day fully begins.

As we all know, these cooler stretches are temporary. Taking advantage of them by prioritizing recovery and maintenance can have a lasting effect. When the warm weather returns, your body is already in a better position to keep up.

Call or text at 720-556-0885 or download the Fresha app and search for Cap Hill Massage & Wellness.

See you soon!

Cold Overcast Spring Morning

April has a way of shifting moods overnight. This morning is cold and overcast, the kind of gray sky that lingers a little longer than expected. It's a contrast to what we've been starting to feel lately - longer days, hints of warmth, and the steady transition into a new season.

With Easter now behind us, spring is fully in motion. Even with the occasional cloudy start, there's a noticeable change in the air. It's a season that invites movement - both physically and mentally.

This time of year often brings a reset. After months of winter routines, people begin returning to activities they may have paused - getting outside more, reestablishing wellness habits, or simply paying closer attention to how their body feels day to day. The shift into spring highlights areas where tension has built up over the colder months.

Massage can play a practical role in that transition. As activity levels increase, so does the demand placed on the body. Addressing lingering tightness, improving circulation, and supporting recovery can make that seasonal shift more manageable. Even on colder mornings like today, the broader trend is clear: spring is here and the body responds accordingly.

As the season continues to unfold, it's a good time to stay consistent with maintenance rather than waiting for discomfort to build. The change in weather may be gradual, but its impact is cumulative.

Click here to book. See you soon!

April Reset

April arrives with a noticeable shift this year. Instead of the usual late-season snow and unpredictable cold snaps, we've experienced an unseasonably warm winter with very little snowfall. While the sunshine has been welcome, the lack of snowpack is hard to ignore. In Colorado, winter typically provides a natural reset - slowing us down, encouraging rest, and preparing the body for the active months ahead. Without that pause, many people are moving straight from a busy fall into an equally busy spring without fully recovering.

As the days get longer and temperatures continue to fluctuate between kinda cool and hot, activity levels tend to increase quickly. More time outdoors, more movement, and more strain on the body can lead to tightness, fatigue, and lingering discomfort. This makes April an opportunity to reset physically before summer fully takes over.

Easter also falls in April this year, a time traditionally associated with renewal and fresh starts. Whether that means gathering with family, taking a day to slow down, or simply recognizing the seasonal shift, it serves as a reminder to recalibrate. Just as nature moves into a new phase, the body benefits from intentional care and maintenance.

Deep Tissue massage can play a key role during this transition. Addressing accumulated tension now can help prevent more significant issues later. Increased activity without proper recovery often leads to overuse patterns, particularly in the neck, shoulders, and lower back. Regular bodywork supports circulation, improves mobility, and helps the body adapt more effectively to seasonal changes.

This April, focus on balance. Take advantage of the warmer weather, but incorporate recovery into your routine. A proactive approach now can make a measurable difference in how your body performs and feels in the months ahead.

Click here to book. See you soon!

March Is Here!

March marks the transition from winter into spring. As temperatures begin to rise and daylight increases, many people notice changes in energy levels, sleep patterns, and overall routines. This shift makes March a practical time to reset habits and address physical tension that may have built up during the colder months (even though they weren't very cold this year!).

Daylight Saving Time begins March 8 and while the change brings longer evenings, it can temporarily disrupt sleep (we lose an hour in spring). Even a one-hour shift can affect mood, focus, and physical recovery. Maintaining consistent bedtimes, limiting late-night screen use, and supporting the body with regular therapeutic massage can help ease that transition.

Spring also tends to increase activity levels. Yard work, outdoor exercise, travel, and schedule changes can place new demands on the body. If you've been less active through winter, muscles and joints may need time to adapt. Proactive bodywork can reduce stiffness, improve circulation, and support mobility as activity increases.

March includes both Spring Break travel and the early stages of allergy season in Colorado. Travel often means long periods of sitting, while allergies can contribute to sinus pressure and upper body tension. Massage techniques that focus on the neck, shoulders, and upper back may help relieve associated discomfort.

As the season shifts, consider using March as a checkpoint. Evaluate sleep, stress levels, posture, and movement habits. Small adjustments now can prevent larger issues later in the year.

If you are planning to spring forward with new goals or increased activity, scheduling consistent sessions can help support recovery and maintain progress throughout the season.

A few updates... I now offer Hot Stones added to any massage, as well as a Hot Oil Scalp Massage, and Shea Butter! Click here to book.

Come see me soon at Cap Hill Massage & Wellness! 190 E 9th Avenue in Denver, at the corner of 9th and Sherman.
Happy February from Cap Hill Massage & Wellness!

Happy February Denver!

February often feels like a transitional month. January is finally over (it always seems longer than any other month) and winter is still present but no longer novel (However the snowiest month of Colorado is still yet to come!). It's a good time to check in with your body and make small adjustments before they turn into ongoing discomfort.

This month includes President's Day, which for many people means a long weekend and this year, probably protests. Scheduling a massage around a long weekend can make the time off feel more restorative rather than draining. And this year Mardi Gras just happens to land the day after Presidents Day and even though it won't make the weekend longer (unless you live in New Orleans), it'll feel like it!

In Colorado, cold weather continues to influence how the body feels this time of year. Many people notice increased hip, back, or shoulder tension in February compared to warmer months. Regular massage can help maintain mobility and comfort until spring activity levels naturally increase again.

February is also a practical moment to reassess self-care habits. Goals set at the start of the year are either becoming routine or quietly falling away. Rather than thinking in terms of major changes, it can be more effective to focus on consistency. One massage per month, combined with simple daily habits like stretching, hydration, and regular walking, can have a noticeable cumulative effect.

At Cap Hill Massage & Wellness, February is treated as a maintenance month. It is about supporting what your body is already doing and addressing small issues before they become larger ones. Whether you are coming in after a busy President's Day weekend or simply looking to stay comfortable through the remainder of winter, massage can play a steady, practical role in your overall care.

As the days slowly begin to lengthen (Daylight Savings Time starts March 8th!), February offers a chance to pause, reset, and prepare for the more active months ahead—without overcomplicating the process.

A few exciting changes are coming to Cap Hill Massage & Wellness starting in February:

Starting the week of February 1st, I'll be open Wednesdays 9am-1:30pm and Saturdays 9am-4pm, and 5:30-9pm. Click here to book. See you soon and Happy Mardi Gras Month!

Massage In January

The start of a new year typically brings reflection and resolutions. Schedules reset, intentions sharpen, and there is space to reassess how the body has been carrying the previous year. Even without extreme weather, January can still hold residual tension with altered routines and the quiet stress that accompanies year-end transitions.

Massage in this season serves a practical purpose. It supports circulation during colder months, helps regulate the nervous system after a busy December, and provides structure when external rhythms feel slightly off. Consistent bodywork can help maintain mobility and focus, especially when the weather no longer forces rest.

An unseasonably warm January can make it tempting to rush ahead, to treat the year as already underway at full speed. This is still a good time to slow down intentionally. Recovery and maintenance do not require exhaustion to be valid. They are most effective when proactive.

As the year opens, consider January less as a launch and more as a foundation. Establishing care for the body now can influence how the rest of the year feels.

Starting February 7th Cap Hill Massage & Wellness will be open 9am - 9pm on Saturdays! Click here to book or feel free to shoot me a text and I'll get back to you you as soon as possible.
Happy New Year!!

Do you ever notice how January has a way of quietly resetting the room?

The calendar flips, expectations soften, and there is a collective pause before the year really gets moving. It's the season of fresh starts.. not the loud, performative kind, but the practical ones. The kind where you take stock of how your body actually feels, where your stress levels are, and what you want to carry into the new year as opposed to what you're ready to leave behind.

This January, Denver is offering an unexpected assist. Instead of deep freezes and constant snow days, we've been experiencing stretches of unseasonably warm weather. While it might feel strange for this time of year, it creates a rare opportunity to reset without fighting against the environment. Bodies are moving more freely and recovery comes a little easier.

A new year doesn't require extreme resolutions or drastic overhauls; sustainable change usually starts with attention.. paying attention to chronic tension that never quite goes away, to stress patterns that live in your shoulders or jaw. Aches that became "normal" sometime last year don't actually need to be.

Deep tissue massage fits naturally into this kind of reset. It supports circulation, mobility, and nervous system regulation, especially during seasonal transitions when routines shift and stress can quietly build. Starting the year with regular bodywork helps establish a baseline: how your body feels when it's actually supported, not just tolerated.

January is also a reminder that self-care doesn't have to wait until things get bad. It can be proactive. It can be built into your schedule before tension becomes pain or fatigue becomes burnout.

As the year opens and Denver enjoys this unexpected warmth, consider using the moment to check in with yourself. A fresh start doesn't need to be dramatic.. sometimes it's as simple as giving your body the care it's been asking for all along.

Mid-December, But Not the December We Expect

December in Denver is supposed to bite. Sharp air, tight shoulders, hands shoved into pockets like the body knows what's coming.. but this year the city is floating through an unseasonably warm spell, and it throws the nervous system just slightly off balance. The calendar says winter but the body says maybe not yet.

Warm days in December invite motion. People walk longer, sit outside, carry tension differently. Muscles don't lock up the way they usually do, but they also don't fully relax. The body stays alert, waiting for the cold that hasn't arrived. That kind of in-between season has its own strain.

When the weather doesn't match expectations, the body compensates. You move more, stretch less, skip recovery because nothing hurts yet. Then one morning you wake up with a neck that won't turn or a low back that feels like it missed a memo. That's December tension wearing a warm disguise.

Massage in a stretch of warm winter weather isn't about thawing frozen tissue. It's about recalibration. Letting muscles release before they harden. Letting the nervous system settle instead of hovering. It's maintenance for bodies that are still moving like it's October while the year quietly runs out of road.

December always brings motion - travel, gatherings, long drives, late nights - but warm air makes people forget the cost. Massage creates a pause in that forward rush. A reset before winter eventually shows up and asks for payment.

The season doesn't always look how it's supposed to. Bodies still keep score. Taking care of them now means fewer problems when January finally decides to behave like January.

Happy Holidays from Cap Hill Massage & Wellness!

December is the point in the year when winter stress shows up in the body the fastest. Colder air increases muscle tension, holiday routines disrupt normal schedules, and travel often adds a predictable amount of neck and back strain. Massage therapy is one of the simplest ways to keep your body functioning well during the busiest month of the season.

Cold Weather Means Tighter Muscles

Once temperatures drop, circulation slows. Muscles lose warmth quickly and tighten faster, especially in the upper back, neck, and hip flexors. Many people clench their shoulders without realizing it while moving between cold outdoor air and heated indoor spaces. By mid-December, that repeated pattern usually turns into noticeable stiffness or headaches.

Holiday Activities Increase Physical Load

Carrying bags, wrapping gifts, moving decorations, long drives, crowded airports, and inconsistent sleep all add stress to the musculoskeletal system. Even light physical strain becomes more noticeable when the body is already cold and guarded.

Massage therapy counters these issues by restoring circulation, reducing muscular bracing, and improving overall mobility. Clients often report faster relief in winter because tight tissue responds quickly once it's warmed and manually released.

Seasonal Stress and Recovery

December tends to elevate cortisol levels due to busier schedules, social obligations, and financial pressure. High stress makes muscles even more reactive. Regular massage helps break that cycle by lowering nervous-system tension and improving sleep quality—both of which directly reduce pain sensitivity.

Why Consistent Sessions Matter in December

Scheduling massage throughout the month prevents the common January buildup:

• Persistent neck and shoulder tightness

• Low-back fatigue from travel or long periods of sitting

• Tension headaches

• Reduced range of motion from cold-weather guarding

Maintaining muscular balance now means you start the new year with fewer issues to correct.

Supporting Your Body Between Sessions

Keeping muscles warm, staying hydrated, and doing short, targeted stretches - especially for the neck, hips, and lower back - helps maintain the benefits longer. These small steps reduce the strain winter places on soft tissue.

Happy Holidays everyone and I hope to see you soon!

Thanksgiving Is Here!

Thanksgiving week puts most people into two modes: high stress or full shutdown. The travel, cooking, hosting, and schedule changes tend to show up in the shoulders, low back, and jaw before anything else. This is the point in the year when small aches start turning into real discomfort if they're ignored.

A massage the week of Thanksgiving isn't about treating yourself so much as it's about staying functional when your routine is disrupted. Focused work on the neck, upper back, and hips can help counter the long hours in the car, the extra time standing in the kitchen, and the general tension that comes with family-heavy weeks.

If you want to head into the holiday feeling physically steady—or recover from it—I'll be open on Black Friday with extended business hours. It's a straightforward way to reset your system before the December rush starts.

Thanksgiving week is busy for everyone, but your body doesn't get a break unless you give it one. Booking even a single session this time of year makes a noticeable difference in how you handle the final stretch of the season.

Here's a little Thanksgiving treat from the great Adam Sandler just because I love it!

How November Conditions Increase Muscle Tension and Why Massage Helps

November brings specific physiological stressors that show up consistently in clients throughout cities like Denver. The combination of colder temperatures, reduced daylight, and changes in routine creates measurable effects on muscle tissue, the nervous system, and overall pain patterns.

Cold weather increases baseline muscle tone. When the body is exposed to lower temperatures, it automatically contracts muscle groups in the neck, shoulders, and upper back to conserve heat. This sustained contraction leads to decreased circulation, reduced mobility, and a higher likelihood of developing trigger points.

The time change adds another layer. Disrupted circadian rhythm alters cortisol timing, sleep quality, and neurotransmitter balance. When sleep efficiency drops, muscle recovery declines, and the threshold for pain perception decreases. Many clients report feeling tighter, more irritable, or more fatigued during the first few weeks after the shift.

With the holidays approaching, November also marks the transition into a higher-stress period. When sympathetic activity remains elevated, muscles stay in a guarded state. Over time, this can lead to chronic tension patterns and headaches.

Massage during November is effective because it directly counteracts those mechanisms. Manual therapy increases blood flow, reduces involuntary guarding, and improves tissue elasticity. It also stimulates parasympathetic activity, which helps restore normal autonomic balance after weeks of circadian disruption and cumulative stress.

For clients in central Denver and Capitol Hill, this is the period when preventive care is most useful. My studio at Ninth and Sherman sees a rise in neck, shoulder, and low-back complaints every November for these exact reasons. Addressing the tension now typically results in better sleep, reduced pain, and less reactivity to holiday-season stressors.

A single well-timed session can interrupt the cycle before it escalates, and consistent care through the colder months helps maintain normal function rather than waiting for symptoms to spike in December.

Massage in November

November in Denver is peak "tension season." Between the colder temps, shorter daylight, and holiday pressure starting to build, people are already walking around with tight necks, headaches, jaw tension, and restless sleep. The time change hits the nervous system and your brain produces different hormones depending on light exposure. That sudden shift absolutely affects stress levels.

Colorado winters are famous for making people clench. Shoulders creep up. Muscles guard against the cold. Many people sit more, move less, and carry more emotional stress without realizing it. Holiday obligations, family dynamics, travel planning, budgeting, and end-of-year workload all pile on fast.

Massage in November is the time to stabilize your baseline before holiday stress peaks in December. One 60 or 90 minute session helps switch the nervous system out of the stress response. When your body is already regulated, the rest of the season becomes much more manageable.

This isn't about "treating yourself." It's about preventing the December crash.

Most people wait until they are in pain or overwhelmed... that's the worst time. The best time to get a massage is at the very start of the holiday season, when you can set the tone for winter and maintain better mental and physical stability all month.

The snow is coming. The cold is here. The time change is here and holiday stress is starting.

Booking a massage in November is a strategy move that actually keeps your body ahead of the curve rather than fighting to recover after the damage is done.

If you're in Capitol Hill or anywhere near central Denver, this is the time to stay ahead of the tension curve. I'm at the corner of Ninth and Sherman which is easy access from Cheesman, Uptown, Congress Park, and the Speer corridor. A well timed session right now keeps your nervous system steadier going into the holiday push instead of scrambling to fix everything after you're already burnt out.

Resetting for Fall With Massage

There's a bit of a shift in the air this time of year in Denver... growing up in the south I would often hear "There's a nip in the air!" The days get shorter, the evenings get cooler, and suddenly the energy that carried us through summer starts to slow down. Fall always feels like an invitation to pause — to take a breath, check in with ourselves, and move into a more grounded rhythm.

Our bodies feel these seasonal changes just as much as our minds do. After a summer full of activity — travel, hiking 14er's, camping — it's common to feel a little run down. Muscles that worked hard all season start to feel tight. Sleep patterns change as daylight fades earlier. Even our mood can shift with the weather. All of that is normal, but it's also a sign that your body could use a little extra care right now.

Massage is a fabulous way to support yourself during this seasonal transition. It helps your nervous system slow down and adjust to the new pace. It loosens up tension that's been building all summer, and it's a great way to reset your body before the busier (and colder!) months ahead. Many people also notice that regular massage this time of year helps them sleep better and feel more balanced overall — which is especially helpful as our schedules start to fill up again.

Fall is also a good time to think proactively. Instead of waiting until your body is screaming for attention, scheduling regular massage sessions now can help you stay ahead of aches, tension, and stress. Think of it as maintenance rather than damage control — small, consistent care that keeps you feeling your best as the seasons change.

And since today is Cabrini Day, it's worth noting something special about this time of year here in Denver. Colorado is the only state that celebrates Cabrini Day instead of Columbus Day — a holiday dedicated to Frances Xavier Cabrini, known for her work with immigrants and communities in need. It's a day centered on compassion and care, which feels fitting when we're talking about taking care of ourselves, too. Massage might seem like a simple thing, but it's one of the most compassionate acts of self-care you can give yourself.

If you're feeling the shift from summer into fall — physically, mentally, or both — massage can help you move through the Colorado transition with a little more ease.

There aren't many massage studios in Denver that offer a 60 or 90-minute massage.. most are 50 and 80-minute. Book with Cap Hill Massage & Wellness and you'll get a full 60 or 90 minutes devoted just to you. Let's get your body grounded, relaxed, and ready for the season ahead. See you soon!

Tech Neck Relief

If you spend most of your day at a desk, hunched over a computer or glued to your phone, you're not imagining that stiff, achy feeling that creeps into your neck and shoulders. It's so common these days it even has a name: tech neck.

Tech neck happens when your head and shoulders stay in a forward, rounded position for hours on end. The muscles in your neck and upper back have to work overtime to hold your head up, and over time they tighten, shorten, and start to ache. That dull stiffness, limited range of motion, or even those nagging tension headaches — that's all your body's way of saying, "I need a massage!"

Massage is one of the most effective ways to reset your body when this happens. During a 90-minute session, I focus much of the time on the muscles that do most of the heavy lifting when you're in that forward head posture — the ones along your neck, across the tops of your shoulders, and between your shoulder blades. By working deeply and intentionally into those areas, I can help them release so they're not constantly pulling and straining.

Once those tight spots begin to let go, it's easier to move. You might notice you can turn your head more freely, roll your shoulders without that familiar tug, or even stand a little taller. Many people also find that tension headaches become less frequent once that built-up pressure eases.

And while massage makes a big difference, small daily habits help too. Taking short breaks to roll your shoulders back, lift your chin, and look away from the screen can keep that tension from building up so quickly. Think of it as maintenance between sessions — the little resets that make each massage even more effective.

If tech neck has become part of your everyday life, it doesn't have to stay that way. With focused neck work, we can release the tension that's weighing you down and help your body feel balanced again.

How to Get the Most From a Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is different from a relaxing spa treatment (however if that's what you want, we can absolutely do a relaxing massage!). It's about addressing the tension that builds up in muscles over time—knots from stress, stiffness from posture, or tightness from repetitive movements.

When you come in, my focus is on working layer by layer into those areas that need the most attention. The pressure is steady and intentional, deep and focused in some areas and relaxing in others. My flow is designed to release what's stuck without forcing your body to push back. It may feel strong at times, but it should never feel like pain—it's about relief.

The effects often last longer when you keep up with massage regularly. A single session can feel like a reset, but coming in every few weeks to monthly prevents all that tension from building up again.

It's also normal to feel a little sore the next day, kind of like you would after a solid workout. Staying hydrated, moving around gently, and giving your body time to recover will help the benefits last.

Deep tissue massage works best when you let go of any expectations about what you should be doing and simply allow your body to receive the work. Show up, relax, and I'll take care of the rest.

Ready to book? Click here.

See you soon!

5 Ways Massage Helps You Let Go of Stress

Life is stressful — there's no way around it. Whether it's work, family, politics (a BIG stressor these days!) or just the constant buzz of day to day life, that stress doesn't stay in your head. It shows up in your body: tight shoulders, a stiff neck, aching lower back. I see it all the time.

That's where massage comes in. I've been a massage therapist for 9 years, and my focus is on deep tissue work. My goal is to help your body actually let go — to release the tension that stress builds up over time. When you come in for a massage, it's quiet, it's focused, and it's all about you.

Here are five ways massage can make a real difference when stress is weighing you down:

1. Releasing Built-Up Tension

Stress tends to live in the muscles. Deep tissue massage works past the surface to get into those tight areas so your body can finally relax instead of holding everything in.

2. Helping the Nervous System Reset

Massage isn't just physical. It signals your nervous system to switch gears — from "fight or flight" mode into "rest and digest." That shift is what leaves you calmer, breathing easier, and feeling more balanced after a session.

3. Improving Sleep

So many clients tell me they sleep better after a massage. That's because massage helps lower cortisol (the stress hormone) and increase serotonin and dopamine — which are important for good sleep and good mood.

4. Giving You Quiet Time

When you're on my table, there's no need for conversation. I keep my sessions quiet so you can truly check out and give your mind a break. For a lot of people, that peace and stillness is just as valuable as the bodywork. People often fall asleep, which I encourage.

5. Teaching the Body to Let Go

Here's an important one: don't help me move you. That urge to want to "help" is nothing more than your brain feeding into a habit. If I lift your arm, leg, or head, just let it stay heavy. When you resist the urge to assist and allow your body to be fully relaxed, the massage works so much better. It's all about letting go — physically and mentally.

⸻

Ready to Let Go?

Massage isn't just about feeling good in the moment — it's about helping your body and mind reset so you can handle life with less stress. If you're ready to give your body that break, I'd love to work with you.

Click here to book and let's help you let go of the weight you've been carrying.

⸻

See you soon!

Receiving A Massage

Receiving a massage properly is essential for getting the most out of the experience. Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned pro, being relaxed, mindful, and communicative can help you maximize the benefits of your massage. Here's a guide on how to receive a massage properly:

1. Arrive Early

Arrive 5-10 minutes before your appointment in order to settle in and relax before the session begins. Rushed or late arrivals can result in a rushed or shortened massage, so it's best to be punctual and ready. Remember, the scheduled time is the time we need to start the massage. If your massage is scheduled for for 10am, plan on arriving between 9:50 and 9:55.

2. Communicate Your Preferences

Before the massage starts, I will typically ask a few questions. This is your chance to provide important information:

Pressure: Don't hesitate to ask me to adjust pressure during the session if it's too much or too little. I likely won't ask before the massage starts because what you booked tells me a lot, and I check in a few times during the session.
Focus Areas: If you have specific areas of tension (like shoulders, lower back, or neck), be sure to mention them so that I can focus on those areas. I'm more than happy to focus specifically on those particular areas, or give you a full-body massage with more focus on said areas, but please let me know before we start so that I can plan accordingly. If you want a full-body massage with more focus on specific areas, I highly recommend a 90 or 120-minute session.
Comfort: Tell me about any comfort preferences, like the room temperature, music, or lighting. If something feels off (e.g., if you're too cold or uncomfortable), don't be afraid to speak up.

3. Undress to Your Comfort Level

Once we're done chatting beforehand, I'll leave the room to give you privacy. Typically, you'll undress to your comfort level. In a traditional massage, you may be fully undressed or wear undergarments, while others might prefer to keep more clothes on, such as a swimsuit or athletic wear. You'll be appropriately covered the whole time.

4. Lie Still and Try Not To Help

Once you're on the table, take a deep breath and just rest. I'll start you face down unless you specify you'd rather start face up. You'll have this urge to want to try and help me... for example, when I lift your arm, legs, head, etc. you'll want to jump in and do it for me. Try not to. Resist that urge as much as possible. It's important to remain as still and relaxed during the massage, which allows me to work effectively on your muscles.

Avoid talking too much: I strongly discourage engaging in conversation during a massage. The goal is to create a calm, relaxing atmosphere.

5. Breathe Deeply

Breathing deeply and slowly will help your body relax and release tension. Focus on your breath to keep your mind calm and allow your muscles to soften. This is especially helpful if you're receiving a deep tissue massage or working through tension spots.

Don't hold your breath: When you hold your breath, you also hold your body tight, which defeats the purpose of the massage.

6. Provide Feedback During the Massage

If at any point the pressure feels too much or too little, or if you feel any discomfort, let your therapist know immediately. I want to ensure your comfort. Likewise, if you're enjoying a particular area being worked on, feel free to let me know that as well.

Pain vs. Discomfort: "It needs to hurt to be effective" is a myth. Understand the difference between pain and discomfort. Deep tissue work can sometimes feel intense, but it shouldn't be painful to the point of causing sharp pain. If it is, speak up.

7. Stay Present, But Don't Force Yourself to Stay Awake

Avoid distractions and try to stay present during your massage. This means not checking your phone or worrying about other things on your mind. Focus on the sensations you're feeling during the massage and allow yourself to fully unwind.

Mindfulness helps: Many people find that the more they focus on the sensations of the massage and their breath, the more they can relax.
Falling asleep: Falling asleep during a massage is perfectly fine. I have people snoring all the time on my table. Trust me, you won't miss anything if you fall asleep.

8. Let Go of Tension

Try to consciously relax the muscles you're not currently working on. For example, if I'm working on your back, consciously release any tension in your legs or face. This makes it easier for me to work through the tension and increases the benefits of the massage.

9. Stay Relaxed After the Session

When we're done, take your time to get up slowly and avoid jumping up too quickly. You might feel a little light-headed or dizzy... almost a drunk feeling—this is normal. Massage brain is a very real thing!

Stretch gently: After a massage, it always feels good to stretch as though you're just getting up in the morning.
Drink water: Massage can flush out lactic acid, so it's important to drink water and maybe take a relaxing walk to help flush the system.

10. Provide Feedback Afterward

After your massage, you can share any feedback with me... I would love to hear it. Did the pressure feel right? Was the room temperature comfortable? Did you enjoy the session overall? Your feedback can help improve your next experience.

11. Follow Up for Additional Sessions

If you found the session beneficial and feel like you want to continue, I'd love to have you come back.
Cap Hill Massage & Wellness Intro

Well hello there and welcome to Cap Hill Massage & Wellness, a new private practice studio in downtown Denver. I'm located at the corner of 9th and Sherman 190 E. 9th Avenue Ste. 250-E, just a few steps away from Yoga Box.

A bit more about Chelsea, your therapist...

I started my practice in 2015 when I attended Denver School of Massage Therapy in Aurora, then quickly moved to Summit County and began my career. Things were a bit rocky (no pun intended) for a while... I floated through lots of jobs and had a difficult time finding my place in both the world and in my career. During this time I picked up Hot Yoga as a hobby and started practicing. And practicing. And practicing. Often times 2-4 classes a day, 6-7 days a week. This lasted for a few years, and changed my life. I started noticing the changes in both my mind and body... suddenly I'm strong. I'm flexible. But most importantly, I'm calm!

I began to start molding my massage practice around things I picked up from my yoga training. My movement and my flow started resembling a yoga flow. I would start integrating little things like stretches and mindsets into my routine, as well as actual yoga poses into my movements around the client and the table. I started noticing that nearly everyone that came in wanted deep tissue, so I started learning how to perform a deep tissue massage that was both intense and relaxing. I also noticed that people, for the most part, were tight in the same areas so the more I worked those specific areas, the more in tuned I became. Suddenly I had my practice, I had my flow.

I floated around a number of spas in Summit County before finding that feeling of belonging at three in particular: Mt. Royal Spa, Sol Impressions, and Alpine Spa, floating between these three wonderful places. Eventually the big city started once again calling my name so I left the mountains and made a home in my favorite part of Denver, Cap Hill.

I'm available five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday by appointment only. I can be reached by phone or text at 720-556-0885 and online bookinhg is available via Fresha. Thank you so much for visiting and I hope to see you soon!
