How to Get the Most From a Deep Tissue Massage

By Chelsea Lilly - October 2, 2025

Deep tissue massage is different from a relaxing spa treatment (however if that's what you want, we can absolutely do a relaxing massage!). It’s about addressing the tension that builds up in muscles over time—knots from stress, stiffness from posture, or tightness from repetitive movements.

When you come in, my focus is on working layer by layer into those areas that need the most attention. The pressure is steady and intentional, deep and focused in some areas and relaxing in others. My flow is designed to release what’s stuck without forcing your body to push back. It may feel strong at times, but it should never feel like pain—it’s about relief.

The effects often last longer when you keep up with massage regularly. A single session can feel like a reset, but coming in every few weeks to monthly prevents all that tension from building up again.

It’s also normal to feel a little sore the next day, kind of like you would after a solid workout. Staying hydrated, moving around gently, and giving your body time to recover will help the benefits last.

Deep tissue massage works best when you let go of any expectations about what you should be doing and simply allow your body to receive the work. Show up, relax, and I’ll take care of the rest.
