Tech Neck Relief

How Deep Tissue Massage Helps Desk Workers

By Chelsea Lilly - October 11, 2025

If you spend most of your day at a desk, hunched over a computer or glued to your phone, you’re not imagining that stiff, achy feeling that creeps into your neck and shoulders. It’s so common these days it even has a name: tech neck.

Tech neck happens when your head and shoulders stay in a forward, rounded position for hours on end. The muscles in your neck and upper back have to work overtime to hold your head up, and over time they tighten, shorten, and start to ache. That dull stiffness, limited range of motion, or even those nagging tension headaches — that’s all your body’s way of saying, “I need a massage!”

Massage is one of the most effective ways to reset your body when this happens. During a 90-minute session, I focus much of the time on the muscles that do most of the heavy lifting when you’re in that forward head posture — the ones along your neck, across the tops of your shoulders, and between your shoulder blades. By working deeply and intentionally into those areas, I can help them release so they’re not constantly pulling and straining.

Once those tight spots begin to let go, it’s easier to move. You might notice you can turn your head more freely, roll your shoulders without that familiar tug, or even stand a little taller. Many people also find that tension headaches become less frequent once that built-up pressure eases.

And while massage makes a big difference, small daily habits help too. Taking short breaks to roll your shoulders back, lift your chin, and look away from the screen can keep that tension from building up so quickly. Think of it as maintenance between sessions — the little resets that make each massage even more effective.

If tech neck has become part of your everyday life, it doesn’t have to stay that way. With focused neck work, we can release the tension that’s weighing you down and help your body feel balanced again.
